Before you book

Can you use insurance at Counsel Clinic? The honest answer.

Counsel Clinic is private-pay. We don't bill your insurance directly. What we do give you is a detailed paid receipt you can submit to your insurer — here's exactly what happens, so you know before you book.

The short version

  • You pay Counsel Clinic directly at booking — we don't bill any insurer, anywhere.
  • After your session or package purchase , we email you a detailed paid receipt with everything insurers typically ask for.
  • You submit the receipt to your insurer. They decide reimbursement — that part is between you and them.

How this actually works

Three steps. No jargon. If anything is unclear, message us on WhatsApp before you book.

1

You pay us

You pay the full session fee through the platform at booking. Counsel Clinic is operated by a Singapore-registered company and is not contracted with any insurer — in the UAE or anywhere else.

2

We issue your receipt

After your session or package purchase, you get an email with a detailed paid receipt. It includes your therapist, session date and duration, amount paid in AED, and — where clinically appropriate — an ICD-10 code.

3

You submit to your insurer

You send that receipt to your insurer as an outpatient mental health or out-of-network claim. They review it against your specific plan and decide what to reimburse — or whether to reimburse at all.

What your receipt includes

Every receipt we issue contains the fields insurers most commonly ask for. If your insurer needs something else, tell us — we'll do what we reasonably can.

Included on every receipt

  • Session date, time, and duration
  • Place of service: online / telehealth
  • Therapist full name and credential
  • Therapist license number (where issued by a regulator)
  • Service description (e.g. "Individual online therapy, 50 minutes")
  • Amount paid in AED and payment date
  • Platform legal entity and business registration number
  • ICD-10 code (if clinically appropriate) Optional

Before you book: check 3 things

Five minutes with your insurer now saves weeks of back-and-forth after a denied claim. Whatever they tell you, write it down.

1. Is mental health covered on your plan at all?

Many standard UAE plans exclude outpatient mental health entirely. Some cover it with pre-authorization. Your policy document is the answer — look for "mental health," "psychology," or "psychiatric" exclusions.

Ask your insurer: "Does my plan cover outpatient mental health or psychology sessions? In-network only, or out-of-network as well?"

2. Does your plan require a network provider?

Most UAE plans operate on direct-billing networks. If Counsel Clinic isn't in your network (we aren't — we're private-pay), reimbursement is often limited or denied.

Ask your insurer: "Will you reimburse me for an out-of-network online therapy session? If yes, at what rate and with what documentation?"

3. What does your insurer need on the receipt?

Some want an ICD-10 code. Some want the provider's specific licensing body. Knowing this before you book means you won't chase us for fields later.

Ask your insurer: "What specific fields do you need on an out-of-network provider's receipt for me to submit a claim?"

Saudi Arabia

Outpatient mental health is covered under CCHI rules for Saudi-employed residents, but telehealth from an international provider is rarely reimbursed. Private premium plans occasionally cover out-of-network online therapy.

Qatar, Kuwait & Bahrain

Public coverage doesn't extend to international online therapy. Private plans vary widely — premium expat plans sometimes reimburse; standard plans rarely do.

If you're on a US, UK, or European plan, check whether out-of-network mental health telehealth is included and whether your provider needs to be licensed in your country. HSA/FSA in the US generally covers licensed mental health services, subject to your plan administrator's rules.

Our policies

A few clear rules so there are no surprises later.

Refunds are independent of your insurer

If your insurer denies or partially pays your claim, that doesn't change what you paid for your session. We can't refund a session you attended based on a third-party decision.

Diagnostic codes are clinical, not optional on request

If you want an ICD-10 code, your therapist will add one based on their clinical assessment — not on what your plan happens to cover. This protects you and the therapist.

Receipts are dated to the actual session

We only issue receipts for sessions paid through the platform and date them to the session that actually happened. We can't backdate or batch-date receipts.

Lost your receipt? We'll resend

Email support@counselclinic.com and we'll resend the original. We don't issue duplicates designed for resubmission to a second insurer.

Have a question?

Why don't you do direct billing?

Direct billing requires the platform to be contracted in-network with each insurer — a process that locks platforms into network rate cards, restricts the therapist pool, and often pushes session prices higher. Counsel Clinic chose private-pay to keep session prices transparent, offer a wider therapist pool, and allow clients to start within days rather than weeks. For many clients, the out-of-pocket cost at Counsel Clinic ends up lower than the copay on an in-network platform, even before any reimbursement.

Can I actually get reimbursed on a UAE plan?

It depends on your plan. Standard UAE plans often exclude outpatient mental health or only cover it at in-network providers. Premium plans sometimes reimburse out-of-network online therapy at a partial rate, often with pre-authorization required. Most Counsel Clinic UAE clients don't attempt to claim; those who do tend to succeed more on premium plans than on basic ones. Clients should call their insurer's member services line and ask specifically about "out-of-network outpatient mental health telehealth" before booking.

Do you issue invoices acceptable for corporate reimbursement?

Yes. Many employers reimburse mental health expenses through HR benefits, wellness stipends, or flexible benefit allowances, separate from insurance. The detailed paid receipt works for most corporate reimbursement processes. If your HR requires a specific form or an itemised invoice with additional fields, you can send it to Counsel Clinic and they will complete what they legitimately can.

Do you include CPT codes, NPI numbers, or superbills?

CPT codes and NPI numbers are US-specific billing identifiers used by in-network US providers. Because Counsel Clinic is operated by a Singapore-registered entity and is not a US clinical practice, the standard receipt is a paid service receipt — not a US-format superbill — and CPT codes are not issued at the entity level.

What if my insurer denies my claim?

Denied claims are common for out-of-network mental health, even with complete paperwork. Most insurers have a formal appeals process — in the UAE, that typically means a member services escalation or a written appeal with supporting documents. Counsel Clinic cannot reverse an insurer's decision or refund a session attended based on a third-party denial. Checking with your insurer before booking is strongly recommended.

Is a diagnosis code required? Can I leave it off?

Yes, you can leave it off — it is optional. Many insurers require an ICD-10 code to reimburse; some clients prefer to keep a mental health diagnosis off paperwork linked to employer-provided insurance. The client chooses what to include. If a code is wanted, the therapist adds one based on their clinical assessment.

My insurer asks for a specific form. Can you fill it out?

Sometimes. Many insurers have their own out-of-network claim form that the client fills in and attaches the provider's receipt to. If the form requires provider-side fields Counsel Clinic can legitimately supply (licence number, dates of service, service description), clients can message the team on WhatsApp with the form and they will complete what they can. They will not sign anything that misrepresents the service.

How long after a session will I get my receipt?

When you purchase a session or package, a confirmation email and message are sent immediately. That confirmation includes a link to download your invoice/receipt.
